Up-To-Date 4-H Record Book

Here is guide, page-by-page, of what your 4-H record book should look like at interview time:

  1. Cover – should be completed. Project Agreement should be completed, with dates and signatures by the member and parent.
  2. Goals – should be completed; seniors – 2 goals minimum; intermediates – 1 goal minimum; juniors – answer goal questions about projects. Goals should be life skill oriented, complete sentences.
  3. Horse ID – Horse ID should be completed and signed.
  4. Animal Inventory – the first START section should be completed; list in separate columns for each project. Juniors’ only list animal, value, sold/died.
  5. Equipment Inventory – Beginning inventory (what you had on-hand at the start of the project) should be completed. Ending inventory should not be filled out at interview time.
  6. Animal Purchase Record – should be completed; list in separate columns for each project.
  7. Feed Expense Record – should be up to date; list in separate columns for each project.
  8. Health Expense Record – should be up to date; make copies of this page if you need more space.
  9. Other Expense Record – should be up to date; list in separate columns for each project.
  10. Health Record – should be up to date; make copies of this page if you need more space.
  11. Income Record – should be up to date; list in separate columns for each project.
  12. Comparison of Market vs. Fair Prices – not to be filled out at interview time. (Intermediate & Senior only)
  13. Market Animal Performance – should be up to date; one page for each project animal or group of animals fed alike.
  14. Financial Summary – not to be filled out at interview time (exception could be for entry of beginning inventory value and animal purchase expense).
  15. Involvement Records – should be up to date.
  16. 4-H Story – not to be filled out at interview time.
  17. Project Pictures – would prefer to see some pictures at interview times but not required to have them.
  18. Breeding Livestock Supplements - should be included in books if you have a breeding project and should be up to date at the minimum, they should have the animal’s name recorded. (not for horse record book)
  19. Goal Reflection—not to be filled out at interview time.
  20. Project Completion—not to be filled out at interview time.
