College Scholarships - Various Deadlines

Weld County CattleWomen Scholarship

The Weld County CattleWomen are offering a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded to a college junior, senior or a student studying for an advanced degree in the fall of 2024. The student needs to be a Weld County, Colorado resident,  or have parents/grandparents that are Weld County residents, and be attending college with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The  student must be planning to attend a school full time for the 2024-2025 school year, in a bachelors or graduate level program.

To apply the applicant must submit:

  1. Cover Sheet with name, address, and email. If address listed is not in Weld County describe how you qualify (parents address, etc)
  2. A 1 page essay on “How I plan to positively influence the beef industry with my chosen major”.
  3. Resume, not more than 1 page, including the following: work history, community involvement, college activities,  future goals.
  4. Two letters of reference
  5. Copy of college transcript

Weld County Bright Futures Scholarship

The Bright Futures program was designed with one objective in mind–strengthening the vitality of the Weld County community through its workforce. The program is funded by taxpayers for qualifying Weld County residents who have graduated from high school, GED recipients and honorably discharged U.S. Veterans, after 2016.  Qualified and accepted recipients receive financial assistance for pursuing post-secondary education or training from a Title IV accredited higher education institution or certified training program.  There are no restrictions concerning program selection.  Whether a  student wants to train to be a chef, a mechanic,  an electrician or wants to pursue an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, they can utilize the Bright  Futures grant program to pursue their dream.  Please visit Weld County Bright Futures for more information.  Application is due May 15, 2024. 


Colorado Master Farm Homemaker Guild Scholarship

The Colorado Master Farm Homemaker Guild is offering a $500 scholarship this year to a Colorado woman with an agriculture background.

Known by the guild as the "Second Chance Scholarship", it will be given to someone who has had her college education interrupted or postponed and is hoping to attend a college, trade school or a secondary education institution. Homemakers are encouraged to apply.

Requirements are: three names of reference, biographical statement of work history, community involvement, future goals, and a statement why she feels the scholarship should be awarded to her.

All applications must be complete when returned to CMFHG and must be returned by May 15th. The award must be used in the year it is received.

Meat Quality Assurance

Weld County 4-H and FFA members enrolling in any market and/or breeding livestock or small animal projects for the first time regardless of age, must attend a Colorado Meat Quality Assurance (MQA) program. 4-H and FFA members will be  required to attend a Face to Face Colorado MQA program a minimum of twice during the course of their career – once as a junior (8-13 years old, age as of December 31st) and once again within one year after becoming a senior (14-18 years old, age as of December 31st) member.  If you are a Cloverbud aging up and will be showing livestock or small animals in the 2023-2024 4-H year, you can come to this Fall MQA Training.

You can attend any MQA in other counties, you can find a list in the 4-H Newsletter of dates and locations.  Please contact that Extension Office for detailed information.  Please let us know you attended another county MQA so we can get the proper paperwork from that county.

There will be a virtual MQA class available in late May or early June.  The virtual MQA will need to be completed by June 5, 2024 and is valid for one year.

Are you ready for Fair?

There is always the common question of: Did you complete all the steps to be eligible to exhibit at fair?  Please see the below check-lists to see if you have completed all the steps for your projects!

  • Family Consumer/General Natural/County Projects
    • Dog ID’s are due in 4-H Online by May 1st. You must update previously exhibited dogs, they do not automatically carry over
    • Interview Judging sign-up by July 8th. Interview judging day is Monday, July 22nd. Sign-up will open on June 1st!
      • Dog and Crops/Vegetable members must sign up for an interview for the corresponding project record book.Failure to sign-up for a record book interview will result in participation only in those two divisions.
    • Fair Entries:Online at: Weld County Fair. Entries close July 8th!!
    • Do you have the proper Record Book? Visit Colorado 4-H website to find the appropriate e-record. For Crops, Pocket Pets and Restoration projects, please use the Self Determined e-record.
    • Shooting Sports: You will need to download your record book from the link above. The manual you received from your leader is not your record book, just a manual for information.
    • Do you know your project requirements? Refer to the State 4-H Exhibit Requirements at State and County 4-H Syllabus! Some projects require only exhibit item and record book, some also require a completed manual.
    • Do you know how your project will be evaluated? Visit:Colorado 4-H website. If you are unsure if you’ve completed all of the steps please call and verify prior to July 8th!!

      • Market Pigs: Must pick up paper work from office and paperwork due back to the Extension Office by 5:00 p.m. May 9th or by 6:00 p.m. at the Southeast Weld Fairgrounds in Keenesburg.
      • Market Rabbits: Doe ID’s Due May 1st
    • Breeding Animal ID's due in 4-H Online by May 15th
    • Horse Project

Judy Stevens Memorial "Making the Best Better" Leadership Application - Due by August 16, 2024

Judy Stevens was a 45 year leader who believed in youth. She loved to see the members grow as individuals, whatever, their project may be.  She encouraged members to help each other. In honor of Judy and her commitment to 4-H, there has been a Judy Stevens Memorial “Making the Best Better” Leadership Award.  You can nominate a member who has shown great leadership by August 16, 2024.

Do you know a member who has exemplified what it means to be a true leader?  If so, make sure to nominate these individuals by August 16, 2024.  Recipients will be announced at the 4-H Awards Banquet on October 1st.
