4-H and FFA members enrolling in any market and/or breeding livestock or small animal projects for the first time regardless of age, must attend a Colorado Meat Quality Assurance (MQA)  program.  4-H and FFA members will be required to attend a Colorado MQA program a minimum of twice during the course of their 4-H career – once as a junior (8-13 years old, 4-H age) and once again within one year  after becoming a senior (14-18 years old, 4-H age) 4-H member.

We have completed all of our face-to-face classes.  The only option is the virtual MQA class.  This class is valid for only 1 year.  The virtual MQA class will be offered between Saturday, May 20th through Monday, June 5th and score an 80% or better on the test to be eligible to show at the Weld County Fair, Southeast Weld County Fair and Colorado State Fair.  After you review the MQA program you need to take the MQA test to complete the course. A score of  80% will be needed to pass the course, if you score below the needed 80% you can re-take the exams as many times as necessary to obtain an 80% score.

You can view an updated MQA list (updated 5/18/2023) with the members who were enrolled last year. This list will let you know if you need to take the MQA training.

Due to continued cases of HPAI (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza) in the State of Colorado and at the recommendation of the Colorado State Veterinarian’s Office, THE MARKET POULTRY SHOW WILL BE A TERMINAL SHOW.  Birds entered in the Market Chicken or Market Turkey show will not be allowed to be taken home by exhibitors at the completion of judging.  A buyback will be offered to those exhibitors.

Market Chickens must be hatched around July 1^st and be no older than 8 weeks old at the time of show.  Market chickens older than 8 weeks are not eligible to show. 

Market Rabbits all need to be born around June 11^th in order to be the correct age to compete in the Market Rabbit division of the fair.  Market Rabbits cannot be older than 10 weeks on the day of show (August 26, 2023) and weigh between 3.5 and 5.5 pounds. 

The age requirements for Market Turkeys will be a minimum of 16 weeks and no more than 20 weeks at the time of weigh-in.  Hen turkeys must weigh a minimum of 13 lbs. to show and Toms must weigh a minimum of 20 lbs. to show.  Both toms and hens are eligible.  Turkeys weighing over 30 lbs. or more than 20 weeks will not be allowed to show.

For Market Chickens the exhibitor would need to list 4 leg band numbers per Market Pen.  Market Turkeys must list a leg band for each bird nominated.  These leg bands will not need to be in or on the animal(s) until arrival at the fair. Market Rabbits must list tattoo numbers on the nomination form. 

Small Animal exhibitors will be required to participate in a Meat Quality Assurance program and sign a “Quality Assurance” form to turn in at the time of weigh-in.  Full disclosure of any medications, medicated feeds and/or supplements given to animals exhibited at the Colorado State Fair is required on this form.  Exhibitors who have not completed a Meat Quality Assurance Program (either Colorado MQA or YQCA) are not eligible to show at the Colorado State Fair.  Exhibitors MUST provide Premises ID (PID) on nomination and entry forms.

There is always the common question of: Did you complete all the steps to be eligible to exhibit at fair?  Please see the below check-lists to see if you have completed all the steps for your projects!

• Family Consumer/General Natural/County Projects
  • Dog ID’s are due in 4-H Online by May 1^st.You must update previously exhibited dogs, they do not automatically carry over
  • Interview Judging sign-up by July 7^th.Interview judging day is Monday, July 24^th. Sign-up will open on June 1^st!
    • Dog and Crops/Vegetable members must sign up for an interview for the corresponding project record book.Failure to sign-up for a record book interview will result in participation only in those two divisions.
  • Fair Entries:Online at: Weld County Fair. Entries close July 7^th!!
  • Do you have the proper Record Book? Visit Colorado 4-H website to find the appropriate e-record.For Crops, Pocket Pets and Restoration projects, please use the Self Determined e-record.
  • Shooting Sports: You will need to download your record book from the link above. The manual you received from your leader is not your record book, just a manual for information.
  • Do you know your project requirements? Refer to the State 4-H Exhibit Requirements at Colorado 4-H website! Some projects require only exhibit item and record book, some also require a completed manual.
  • Do you know how your project will be evaluated? Visit Colorado 4-H website if you are unsure if you’ve completed all of the steps please call and verify prior to July 9^th!!
